The article exposes the results of an evaluation of the programs carried out in Bogotá from 1972 to 2010, by a Study Case selected according to location, origin, size, population and relation to neighborhood leaders. Based on identified variables (approach, social, economic and spatial), empiric research methods were applied to collect information, queries and workshops were developed with the involved actors, and “time lines” were made in a conjunct way. Results allowed to demonstrate the lack of integral vision and recognition of the popular neighborhood identity, the advantages of autonomous processes, and the trend to generate segregation between formal and informal neighborhoods. El presente trabajo forma parte de una investigación mayor encaminada a proponer la transformación de los actuales Programas de Mejoramiento Barrial con vistas a garantizar su continuidad en el tiempo a partir del fortalecimiento de las organizaciones y redes sociales. El artículo expone los resultados de una evaluación de los programas adelantados en la ciudad de Bogotá, de 1972 a 2010, mediante un estudio de casos seleccionados en función de su localización, origen, tamaño, población y relación con los líderes barriales. A partir de variables de enfoques (sociales, económicos y espaciales) se aplicaron métodos de la investigación empírica para recopilar la información, se realizaron consultas y talleres con los actores involucrados, y se elaboraron de forma conjunta “líneas de tiempo”. Los resultados han permitido demostrar la falta de visión integral y de reconocimiento a la identidad del barrio popular, las ventajas de los procesos autónomos y la tendencia a generar dinámicas de segregación entre los barrios formales y los informales.
