The object of this research project consists of the unbuilt residential projects designed by Vilanova Artigas in São Paulo that are available in FAUUSP’s digital Library. The results indicate that physical models contribute to a better interpretation of unbuilt architectural design, both from the conceptual and aesthetic and from the functional and technical point of view. The original contribution lies in the object, i.e. the unbuilt projects, in the method, using physical models for analysis, and in the objective, viz. to establish a relationship between Artigas’ built works and his unbuilt residential projects in order to better understand the design’s spatial conception and its architectural approach.Key words: unbuilt design, residential project, Vilanova Artigas, physical models. Este artigo tem como objetivo relatar resultados parciais da pesquisa que analisa projetos residenciais não construídos do arquiteto Vilanova Artigas. A concepção formal e espacial desses projetos é investigada a partir do uso de modelos físicos. O objeto de estudo são os projetos residenciais não construídos em São Paulo que fazem parte do acervo digital da Biblioteca da FAUUSP. Os resultados obtidos indicam que os modelos físicos contribuem para o aprofundamento da interpretação de projetos não construídos, tanto sob o ponto de vista conceitual e estético como do funcional e técnico. A contribuição original reside no objeto de estudo, o conjunto dos projetos não construídos em São Paulo, no método de análise com maquetes físicas e no objetivo de estabelecer relações entre a obra construída e os projetos de residências não construídas, de modo a contribuir para o melhor entendimento da concepção espacial e o partido arquitetônico de seus projetos residenciais.Palavras-chave: projetos não construídos, projeto residencial, Vilanova Artigas, modelos físicos.
