Museum architecture has evolved throughout history, offering different models suitable to society and the city, and has become a leading typology in the development of the discipline. This paper discusses the continuous changes in museum history, explaining first how a traditional institution hosted in solemn buildings and white walls has transformed itself into an institution where architecture occupies a stellar roll as a spectacle for the masses. The paper ends by describing the model of franchising, its problems, advantages and possibilities.Key words: architectural theory, architectural design, history of architecture, museum studies.
