Since recent literature about the intensive application of Information and Communication Technologies – ICTs on architecture practice, the paper shows how these technologies have remodeled society’s behavior this past decade and have been revolutionizing the architecture field, establishing new paradigms in the conception, development and construction of architectural products. As a consequence this paper asserts the importance of a professional update in terms of digital technology and suggests a deep revision in the curricula of the schools of architecture in order to remove the disciplines of graphic computer application from their peripheral role, as a mere accessory in the final representation process of architectural design to place them as part of the design studio methodology. Este artigo argumenta sobre a existência de uma tendência emergente na arquitetura contemporânea, designada como “Arquitetura Digital”, estruturada a partir de uma metodologia inédita, baseada num corpo teórico exclusivo, apoiado em novas tecnologias e capaz de produzir uma categoria inédita de objetos com alto nível de complexidade. Baseado em literatura recente sobre a utilização intensiva das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação – TICs na prática da arquitetura, o artigo demonstra como essas tecnologias, tendo remodelado o comportamento da sociedade na última década, vêm contribuindo para uma verdadeira revolução nessa área, estabelecendo novos paradigmas de conceituação, desenvolvimento e execução dos produtos arquitetônicos. Como conseqüência, o artigo pontua sobre a importância da atualização dos profissionais do projeto no domínio da tecnologia digital e de uma profunda revisão dos currículos das escolas de arquitetura, no sentido de retirar as disciplinas de informática aplicada de seu atual papel periférico, mero acessório do processo de representação final do projeto arquitetônico, para recolocá-las como parte integrante da metodologia do atelier de projeto.
