In order to test this hypothesis we will offera brief historical overview of architecture and finish analyzing the figureof Rem Koolhaas, whose work is at the center of the dispute betweenthe death and the defense of the city.Keywords: architecture, urbanism, Rem Koolhaas. La arquitectura y el urbanismo tienen una historia comúnque desborda los límites de ambas disciplinas. En la medida en que sevinculan con la ciudad guardan un tenor político que está a la base de lamuerte de ésta. Pondremos a prueba la siguiente hipótesis: la arquitecturacomo institución abandona la tarea de ser rectora de la ciudad para convertirseen su verdugo en el origen del urbanismo. Para contrastar estahipótesis se hará un breve recorrido histórico para terminar analizandola figura de Rem Koolhaas, cuya obra está en el centro de la querellaentre la muerte y la defensa de la ciudad.Palabras claves: arquitectura, urbanismo, Rem Koolhaas.
