It intends to demonstrate, for each period, historical facts that, resulting from capitalist interests, lead to transformations in the social space and are reflected in the physical distribution of inhabited spaces. For that purpose, following the presentation of the main concepts that guide the discourse, it describes pre-capitalist spaces, ranging from traditional villages, going through the formation of the first urban settlements and successively through their transformation into cities, firstly as trading posts, until the rise of the industry. At each moment, it tries to expose the correlation established between the action of capital, the changes in society and the formation of urban spaces. It finally proposes a reflection on contemporary Brazilian cities, some of the phenomena that can be seen there and their possible relationship with the deconstruction of social space.Keywords: social space, deconstruction, urban spaces. O presente texto procura descrever, de forma sucinta, o processo através do qual o capital opera a desconstrução e a fragmentação do espaço social no contexto brasileiro, em momentos distintos da história. Procura-se demonstrar, para cada período, fatos históricos que, resultantes dos interesses capitalistas, levam a transformações no espaço social, refletindo-se na disposição física dos espaços habitados. Para tanto, após a apresentação dos conceitos principais nos quais se baseia a leitura histórica, é realizada uma descrição dos espaços pré-capitalistas, desde as aldeias tradicionais, passando pelas formações dos primeiros aglomerados urbanos, e sucessivamente por sua transformação em cidades, primeiro como postos comerciais, até a ascensão da indústria. Em cada momento, busca-se revelar a correlação que se estabelece entre a ação do capital, as transformações na sociedade e a formação dos espaços urbanos. É apresentada, por fim, uma reflexão acerca das cidades contemporâneas no Brasil, alguns dos fenômenos que ali se verificam, e sua possível relação com a desconstrução do espaço social.Palavras-chave: espaço social, desconstrução, espaços urbanos.
