Both, environmental and performance issues have challenged the industry as a whole, including designers, constructors and suppliers, in view of the complexity of the issues surrounding the concept of performance. This paper discusses new requirements resulting from the adoption of environmental criteria and from the concept of performance, based on results of research that investigated, respectively, the design and production processes of a certificated commercial building and the implementation of the Spanish (CTE) and Brazilian (NBR 15.575/2013) performance standards by construction firms.Keywords: civil construction, built environment, environmental certification, building performance. Preocupações ambientais e de desempenho no ambiente construído são tendências mundiais. No Brasil, cresce o uso de certificações ambientais de edificações, e, desde julho de 2013, está em vigor a NBR 15.575. Esta situação tem desafiado o setor como um todo, incluindo projetistas, construtores e fornecedores. As novas exigências afetam especialmente os projetistas, tendo em vista a complexidade das questões que envolvem os temas e devem ser resolvidas na fase de projeto. Esse artigo discute novas exigências decorrentes da adoção de critérios ambientais e do conceito de desempenho, com base nos resultados de duas Dissertações de Mestrado que investigaram o processo de projeto e de produção de um prédio comercial com certificação ambiental e a implantação das normas de desempenho espanhola (CTE) e brasileira (NBR 15.575) por empresas construtoras.Palavras-chave: construção civil, ambiente construído, certificação ambiental, desempenho.
