There are included precedents of the urban studies based on the social imaginaries, the urban, social and spatial segregation, which obey differentiations from socioeconomic and territorial inequalities. Also, there is included the methodology chosen according to the parameters of the investigations of qualitative cut used, which consist of the compilation of life histories of residents that live on some of the “dangerous” or “insecure” colonies of the metropolis at issue, which describe perception of the “other one” whit his space and his community. Finally, there is reflected about the role of the urban imaginaries around the segregation as element to understand the behavior of the citizenship opposite to the residents of spaces stigmatized by the violence and insecurity, and of how through reasoning of the explored visions, it is possible to explain that the urban morphology isolates and excludes from constructs concerning the spatial identity. El presente documento expone los resultados de una investigación de campo sobre los imaginarios urbanos de la segregación en el Área Metropolitana de Monterrey (AMMty1), México. Se incluyen antecedentes de los estudios urbanos basados en los imaginarios sociales, la segregación urbana, social y espacial, las cuales obedecen a diferenciaciones a partir de desigualdades socioeconómicas y territoriales. Así también, se incluye la metodología elegida de acuerdo a los parámetros de las investigaciones de corte cualitativo, que consiste en la recopilación de historias de vida de residentes que habitan alguna de las colonias “peligrosas” o “inseguras” de la metrópoli en cuestión, los cuales describen percepciones del “otro” con su espacio y su comunidad. Para terminar, se reflexiona sobre el papel de los imaginarios urbanos en torno a la segregación como elemento para comprender los comportamientos de la ciudadanía frente a los residentes de espacios estigmatizados por la violencia e inseguridad, y de cómo a través del razonamiento de las visiones exploradas, es posible explicar que la morfología urbana margina y excluye a partir de constructos en torno a la identidad espacial.
