The cities have a rich cultural heritage used for the purpose of developing tourism. However, it is necessary to know how tourism is felt and valued by the community. The identity and the sense of place of a community are constructed from the material and symbolic elements present in the local social imaginary, not necessarily coinciding with the purposes of the public policy of promoting cultural tourism. The localities located in the Northwest of Mexico (Alamos, Magdalena de Kino and El Fuerte), keep resistance and maintain fears in front of the turistification of their cultural heritage. It is convenient to investigate which are the elements that make up the cultural heritage, how they relate to tourism and whether tourism is a sustainable activity for localities. Los denominados Pueblos Mágicos por la Secretaría de Turismo en México, son localidades donde el turismo es una actividad económica relevante. Las ciudades poseen un rico patrimonio cultural utilizado con la finalidad de desarrollar el turismo. Sin embargo, es necesario conocer cómo el turismo es sentido y valorado por la comunidad. La identidad y el sentido de lugar de una comunidad se construyen a partir de los elementos materiales y simbólicos presentes en el imaginario social local, no necesariamente coincidentes con los propósitos de la política pública de fomento al turismo cultural. Las localidades ubicadas en el Noroeste de México (Álamos, Magdalena de Kino y El Fuerte), manifiestan resistencias y temores frente a la turistificación de su patrimonio cultural. Conviene investigar cuáles son los elementos que conforman ese patrimonio, qué relación guardan con el turismo y si el turismo es una actividad sustentable para las localidades.
