Tourism development offers new structural conditions, globalization ofmarkets, the demand for greater flexibility of the various urban-territorial processes andenvironmental and socio-cultural sustainability. There are many studies and examples on thetopic in other countries, in the Mexican context is still incipient attention. It is necessary toestablish a discussion about what it means and how territory and cultural and natural heritage ismanaged. RESUMENEl presente trabajo plantea algunas reflexiones en torno al tema del patrimonio cultural y naturalen la región turística de Puerto Vallarta y de cómo éste se convierte en un valor añadido a laoferta del turismo de sol y playa. El desarrollo turístico establece nuevas condicionesestructurales a partir de la globalización de los mercados, la exigencia de una mayor flexibilidadde los distintos procesos urbano-territoriales y la sustentabilidad ambiental y sociocultural.Aunque existen estudios sobre éste ámbito y se cuenta con numerosos ejemplos en otros países,en el contexto mexicano aún es incipiente su atención. Por tanto, es necesario establecer debatesde lo que significa, lo que implica, y cómo se gestiona el territorio y el patrimonio cultural ynatural.
