description In the North American Pacific Coast, historic buildings that constitute urban surfaces, typically employ traditional techniques such as wood frame. They use forms and construction systems that were diffused at the end of the nineteenth century through prefabricated models and distributed throughout the American continent. Ensenada city, it is located in this coastal strip and their fundamental traditional techniques are adobe and balloon frame. Nevertheless, the active disappearance of the heritage building that still persists within a certain geographic set used with technical sheets promotes a negative transformation of local identity. Many of these heritage structures are mostly dwellings, which are the result of environmental and constructive adaptation of English and Californian bungalow. The survival of most of these dwellings and their legacy show a healthy and ecological way of living for over a hundred years. Through historical and typological analysis, this work explains the development of two types of bungalows and its construction techniques. The results of this research demonstrate the symbolic importance for its inhabitants and the potential of this heritage as a means of raising the quality of life of the local community from a sustainable perspective. This work aims to identify and analyze physical transformations and constructive adaptations in the components, through the methodological combination of typology and historical interpretation. Finally, concludes with some reflections on the forms and modes of appropriation through the configuration of space and its different manifestations from a heritage and environmental perspective.
