Özet:This article discusses the architect’s role in the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process. Its purpose is to identify the BIM competencies required by this professional and determine which skills should be taught in Architecture degree courses, especially in the teaching of architectural design. Initially, a literature review was carried out to find out the current status of the BIM implementation for Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction and Facilities Management (AEC/FM) companies in Brazil. Then, a theoretical model was outlined for a BIM workflow that can be adapted to be used in Brazil. Based on this BIM workflow, which is divided in eight stages, the architect’s role was examined, as well as the kind of skills required from this professional. Additionally, the architectural curriculum was discussed to find out in which courses BIM can be introduced and what should be included in the syllabus. This study was based on an extensive literature review, which allowed to find out what changes can be made in the teaching of architectural design with the use of BIM.
