| Resumo: | The text presents a comparative analysis of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), North American, and Raul Lino (1879-1974), Portuguese – two nearly contemporary architects, each of them representatives of culture and society in their time, living space and working life. The article frames the historical and cultural context (background) of these authors’ 1st creative phase. In this context, it refers to the works of John Ruskin and William Morris, the Arts & Crafts movement creators, as well as, to the characteristics of this artistic movement – such as its derivations in the end of the nineteenth century in America and Europe – from Deutscher Werkbund to Sullivan and Berlage. Regarding Wright and Lino, this article presents their“understanding of the world”: their conceptual and architectural themes, as well as, the aesthetic and cultural associated movements – “Organic Architecture” and “Portuguese House”. The “six principles” of Wright and the “six principles” of Lino are presented and analyzed – highlighting the similar aspects in their conceptions. The text also describes and illustrates some of the topics and the architectural materials that define and are similar in the first phase of their works. The concept of the house is studied as a whole, their similarities and contrasts in tangible works of Wright and Lino. The text discusses and analyzes a partial theme in specific works of both authors and it ends with conclusive topics. |
