During the First Republic, when the urban core was consolidated at the junction of the tributaries of the river Pardo, the first controversies about the quality of the waters that would supply the city appear. On that occasion, the engineer Saturnino de Brito was invited to evaluate the water sources of the municipality. Thus, the article resumes some episodes of the appropriation of the water resources to make a reflection on the construction of the city. A apropriação dos recursos hídricos foi algo essencial para a formação territorial de Ribeirão Preto desde que os rios possibilitaram a constituição das Fazendas de Criar na região. Durante a Primeira República, quando o núcleo urbano se consolidou no entroncamento dos afluentes do rio Pardo, surgem as primeiras polêmicas sobre a qualidade das águas que abasteceriam a cidade. Nessa ocasião, o engenheiro Saturnino de Brito foi convidado para avaliar os mananciais do município. Assim, o artigo retoma alguns episódios da apropriação dos recursos hídricos para fazer uma reflexão sobre a construção da cidade. La apropiación de los recursos hídricos era algo esencial para la formación territorial de Ribeirão Preto ya que los ríos hecho posible el establecimiento de granjas en la región. Durante la Primera República, cuando el centro de la ciudad se consolidó en la unión de los afluentes del río Pardo, surgen polémicas acerca de la calidad del agua que se abastecen de la ciudad. En esa ocasión, el ingeniero Saturnino de Brito fue invitado para evaluar las fuentes de agua de la ciudad. Por lo tanto, el artículo toma unos pocos episodios de propiedad de los recursos de agua para hacer una reflexión sobre la construcción de la ciudad. Universidade de São Paulo.
