Art, architecture and urbanism. Crisis of aesthetic and ethic values. This essay intends to be a point of light within the absolute timidity in which these fields currently lie. Based on the concepts of "dialectics," "idealism" and "alienation," this article argues that it is impossible to have art, architecture and urbanism condensing ethical and aesthetic values of high social worth within a capitalist system. Ever since the rise of this economic system, the arts have been unable to expose the real values of social change, except for some rare exceptions. The work of Georg Lukács can shed some light on the reasons behind the crisis the arts have faced since the mid 16th century, when the capitalist system gathered momentum. This applies especially to architecture. In the 20th century, we witnessed the birth of the Modern Movement in architecture and its effects on the arts. The emptiness of aesthetic values mirrors the absence of ethical values. The problem has become a problem of Man as a social being. This Man's ontology represents a key to understanding this problem. To this effect, rekindling the emancipating of arts and architecture becomes our mission, particularly when we perceive that "reality is as trivial and mediocre as any truly poetic enhancement" seems a bit odd. We are so used to the lack of individual and social critique that we have not managed to overcome this in any respect. |

Es en ese sentido que este ensayo pretende ser un punto de luz en la absoluta timidez en que se encuentran esas ciencias. Basados en los conceptos de "dialéctica", "idealismo" y "alienación", pretendemos establecer que es imposible que haya arte, arquitectura y urbanismo con valores éticos y estéticos de alto valor social en el contexto de un sistema capitalista. Desde el surgimiento de ese sistema, las artes, con algunas pocas excepciones, están imposibilitadas de expresar valores reales de transformación social. La contribución de Georg Lukács puede fornecernos luces para aclarar los motivos de esa crisis afrontada por las artes, especialmente la arquitectura, desde los mediados del siglo 16, con la aceleración del sistema capitalista. En el siglo 20, con el florecimiento del Movimiento Modernista en la arquitectura y sus repercusiones en las artes plásticas, el vacío de valores estéticos se hizo un reflejo de la ausencia de valores éticos. El problema pasó a ser un problema de Hombre como ser social. La ontología de ese Hombre es una clave para la comprensión de esa problemática. En ese sentido, reactivar la misión emancipadora de las artes y de la arquitectura en particular pasa a ser nuestra misión, principalmente porque nos damos cuenta de que "la realidad es tan trivial y mediocre, que cualquier realce verdaderamente poético" nos parece algo extraño. Estamos de tal manera acostumbrados a la falta de crítica individual y social, que no somos capaces de alcanzar cualquier superación, por mínima que sea. Arte, arquitetura e urbanismo. Crise de valores estéticos e éticos. É nesse sentido que este ensaio pretende ser um ponto de luz dentro da absoluta timidez em que essas ciências se encontram. Baseando-se nos conceitos de "dialética" e de "idealismo" e "alienação", pretendemos afirmar ser impossível haver arte, arquitetura e urbanismo condensando valores éticos e estéticos de alto valor social dentro de um sistema capitalista. Desde o surgimento desse sistema econômico, as artes se encontram, salvo algumas exceções pontuais, impossibilitadas de expor seus reais valores de transformação social.
