Facingthis situation, this article analyzes the urban intervention projectin the Ostiense and Marconi districts, which represent an extensivehistorical industrial area in Rome, Italy. The interventionsin progress cause us to reflect upon the issues involved in thetreatment of the industrial heritage, such as the importance ofdialogue between preservation and urban planning and theelaboration of appropriate projects to intervene in urban fabricsthat have acquired cultural significance. |

Desde la década de 1960, el concepto del patrimonio cultural ha idoampliando sus fronteras de interpretación a una creciente gama deartefactos, allanando el camino para la asignación de significacióncultural a distintas manifestaciones tangibles e intangibles que nosayudan a entender elementos de nuestra historia cultural y social. Eneste proceso, artefactos que eran considerados “menores”, comociertas arquitecturas y conjuntos urbanos asociados a los procesos deindustrialización, han adquirido significación patrimonial, tanto por suimportancia documental y social, como por sus característicasestéticas. Esta expansión conceptual evidencia un problema que hayque abordar: algunas zonas industriales desactivadas, vastas reservasde terreno en espera de una reincorporación a la dinámica urbana, ycontemporáneamente identificadas como artefactos portadores devalores culturales a preservar e interpretar, comenzaron a exigirproyectos acurados de intervención, pensados a partir de lospresupuestos y principios de la teoría de la restauración. Frente a estasituación, este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar el proyecto deintervención urbana propuesto para una extensa zona industrial deinterés histórico, situada entre los barrios Ostiense y Marconi, enRoma, Italia. Las intervenciones en curso nos llevan a reflexionarsobre las cuestiones relacionadas con el tratamiento del patrimoniourbano industrial, como la importancia del diálogo entre laconservación y la planificación urbana; y la elaboración de proyectosacurados para intervenir en conjuntos urbanos que han adquiridosignificación cultural. Desde a década de 1960, o conceito de patrimônio cultural vemexpandindo seus limites interpretativos a uma gama cada vez maior deartefatos, abrindo caminho para a atribuição de significação cultural a diversas manifestações materiais e imateriais, que nos auxiliam a compreender traços de nossa história cultural e social. Nesse processo, artefatos até então considerados “menores”, como determinadas arquiteturas e conjuntos urbanos associados aosprocessos de industrialização, adquiriram representatividadepatrimonial, tanto por sua importância documental e social, comotambém por suas qualidades estéticas. Essa expansão conceitualevidenciou uma problemática a ser enfrentada: certas áreasindustriais desativadas, extensas reservas de terreno à espera de umareinserção na dinâmica urbana e contemporaneamente identificadascomo artefatos portadores de valores culturais, a serem preservados einterpretados, passaram a requerer projetos de intervenção criteriosos,pensados a partir dos pressupostos e princípios da teoria do restauro.Diante desse quadro, o presente estudo objetiva analisar o projeto deintervenção urbana proposto para uma extensa área industrial deinteresse histórico, localizada entre os bairros Ostiense e Marconi, em Roma, Itália. As intervenções em andamento nos conduzem a refletirsobre questões envolvidas no tratamento do patrimônio urbano industrial, como a importância do diálogo entre preservação eplanejamento urbano, e a elaboração de projetos criteriosos, aointervir em conjuntos urbanos que adquiriram representatividade cultural.
