This essay presents the main historical determinants of the postmodern movement in the state of Minas Gerais, particularly the cultural and political opening following the years of military dictatorship in Brazil, the economic crisis, the articulation and the currency of the intellectual circles in that region, the favorable environment for renewal in arts and architecture inBelo Horizonte in the late 1970s, and the intervention of architect Éolo Maia. We also analyze two built examples: Casa Arquiepiscopal, in Mariana, and Rainha da Sucata, in Belo Horizonte. Este ensayo tiene como objetivo presentar los principales condicionantes históricos del movimiento posmoderno en Minas Gerais, destacando el proceso de apertura política y cultural después de los años «de plomo» (período de la dictadura militar brasileña), la crisis económica, el articulación y la actualidad de los círculos intelectuales de la provincia, elambiente de renovación en las artes y la arquitectura en Belo Horizonte, en el final de la década de 1970 y la actuación del arquitecto Éolo Maia. Además, se analizan dos ejemplos construidos, a saber, la Casa Arquiepiscopal, en Mariana, y la Rainha da Sucata, en Belo Horizonte. Este ensaio procura apresentar os principais condicionantes históricos do movimento pós-moderno em Minas Gerais,destacando o processo de abertura política e cultural após os anos de chumbo, a crise econômica, a articulação e a atualidade dos círculos intelectuais mineiros, o clima favorável à renovação nas artes e na arquitetura em Belo Horizonte, no final da década de 1970, e a atuação do arquiteto Éolo Maia. Além disso, são analisados dois exemplos construídos, a saber, a Casa Arquiepiscopal, em Mariana, e a Rainha da Sucata, em Belo Horizonte. Universidade de São Paulo.
