Sumario:This article approaches to the processes of creation and transformation of public space of the deprived periphery zones in Mexican urban context (Xalapa, Veracruz). It is based on the statement that public space of periphery deprived settlements (not formally originated) is the result of inhabitants’ appropriation on the territory with the purpose of creating public spaces searching for quality and enduring. First it is reviewed the definition of public space and evaluates its authority related to the deprived habitat; later the production processes of public space are analyzed, attending to protection, improvement, management and utilitarian strategies of the inhabitants to satisfy the public life requirements.
