There are two aims: to study the way the urban laws produce the form and image of the resultant city, and to evaluate the normative resource as a necessary element to develop the urban land, the activities and the building. This valuation is centred on: - The repeated attempts for controlling the diverse aspects related to the building activity. - The description of the visible results in the city. - The private or public interests, either favourable or opposite, which take part in the construction process of the urban environment. El presente artículo aborda, a grandes rasgos, las particularidades más notables de los reglamentos urbanos aplicados en la ciudad de Nueva York y sus efectos en la imagen urbana. El objetivo principal es revisar las distintas maneras de actuar de la norma y la forma o la imagen de la ciudad resultante y, en segundo lugar, comprobar el valor del recurso normativo como elemento necesario para desarrollar el suelo urbano, las actividades y la edificación. Esta revisión se centra en los reiterados intentos por controlar los diversos aspectos relacionados con la actividad edificatoria, la descripción de los resultados visibles en la ciudad y los intereses privados o públicos, favorables u opuestos, que intervienen en el proceso de construcción del entorno urbano.
