Migration is a natural society process, as movement it shows diverse territory dimensions and different causes for it, but always related to the search of protection or better life conditions. Colombia intern migration, especially in the 60´s and 70´s, described a new population distribution map, which configured a new urban country where forced migration has played an important role during history. This article valuates the urbanization process, the relation of it with the migration phenomenon and the violence impact in the population migration towards urban areas; areas which have had to adjust its size by growing to receive the new inhabitants. These facts create particular urbanization conditions that the author advices, studies and characterizes to reach a better comprehension of the phenomenon in the country. Migración y urbanización son dos categorías que se complementan al momento de abordar el análisis de la distribución poblacional sobre el territorio. La migración es un proceso inherente a las sociedades humanas, son movimientos que muestran diversas dimensiones territoriales y distintos elementos causales, pero siempre se relacionan con la búsqueda de protección o en pos de mejores condiciones de vida. La migración interna en Colombia dibujó especialmente en las décadas del sesenta y setenta, un nuevo mapa de la distribución poblacional, conformando un país urbano en el cual la migración forzada ha jugado un papel importante en diversos momentos históricos. Este artículo evalúa el proceso de la urbanización, la relación que tiene con el fenómeno migratorio y el impacto de la violencia en el traslado de la población hacia distintas áreas urbanas, que han tenido que crecer y ampliar su territorio para recibir a los nuevos pobladores. Este hecho crea unas condiciones particulares de urbanización que la autora advierte, examina y caracteriza para permitir una mejor comprensión del fenómeno en el país.
