This article try to explain how is possible to link these two concepts, emphasizing in aspects of history context: (i) the actual question about the crisis of urban discipline and (ii) the emerging technology utopia, which is a essential feature of globalization. The first one is related to traditional urbanism discourse and is explained by the reflection around contemporary city like extension of industrial city; whereas the second one is inserted in a cross-cutting debate involving not only the city but society as a whole, where TICs are shaping a new kind of human interaction: less physic and more virtual. Entender la interfase que vincula a la ciudad con las tecnologías de información y comunicación (TICs) implica establecer unas bases teóricas desde las cuales hacer la reflexión. El presente artículo pretende explicar de dónde nace la preocupación por vincular a estos dos conceptos, enfatizando en aspectos de contexto histórico como son: (i) el cuestionamiento actual por el que atraviesa la disciplina del urbanismo y (ii) la aparición de la utopía tecnológica como característica esencial de la globalización. El primer aspecto está más relacionado con el discurso urbanístico tradicional, y se explica en la reflexión de la ciudad contemporánea como extensión de la ciudad industrial; mientras que el segundo tiene que ver con una discusión mucho más transversal que involucra no solo la ciudad sino a la sociedad, donde las TICs proponen una nueva forma de interacción humana: menos física y más virtual.
