Summary:Urban development plans are aimed at building the right contexts to bring back the downtown area of Bogotá to its original role: public investment that is appealing for the private sector for what it offers on real estate, building and reforming of public space areas, improvement of road systems and additional efforts to bring better educational and cultural options for the people. In the context of these processes, some of the tensions between urban renewal and urban restoration politics are reviewed on this paper. Some of the culturally valued sites of Las Nieves are reviewed to bring forward the discussion on defining a “cultural treasure”, and on pointing out how this definition creates a distance between the site itself and the logic of urban growth and change.
