| Περίληψη: | The concept of territorial development has become in recent years as a new approach to address the development problems that occur in the territories. The same seeks to synthesize the territorial experiences and conceptions that have been structured throughout the twentieth century of the development. The concept integrates dierent points of views that come from economic, political, social, institutional and environmental disciplines. However, this is a relatively recent concept, which its evolution is still in budding and fragmented. This article examines the dierent approaches that have been elaborated of the territorial development to present a complete and synthetic denition of it. This denition serves as a basis for evaluating the development problems facing the island of Puerto Rico, a dependent territory in the Caribbean region. It is chosen to study a dependent territory because they are seldom taken into account when generating development strategies worldwide. |
