Gaia:The city of São Paulo is considered an impor- tant cultural center, not only in Brazil but also in Latin America. Throughout the 20th century, it was the locus of a series of artistic and aesthetic movements that have positioned it as a reference city. In this way we will analyze two events that, updating the Week of ‘22, impacted on the cultural life of the city and on the social production of this space. The rst one was the foundation of the São Paulo Museum of Art in 1947 and the second the creation in 1948 of the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo. In short, based on the analysis of diverse sources and from a transdisciplinary perspective – art history, sociology and studies on the city - we will give account of this material and symbolic geography, focusing on the link between city, culture and art and their mutual activation. That is, we will focus on a particular con guration of modern landscape where culture and urban history intertwined. It was the São Paulo elite that contributed, through their aspirations, to the organization, arrangement and structuring of this social space, producing ows and meeting points that are still neuralgic for the life of São Paulo
