Description
Summary:The historical gap between art, design and crafts has distanced the theory of practical practice, degrading, for example, the knowledge installed in the experience of the craftsman. For that reason, the purpose of this research is the recognition of the elements that reveal the existence of thought, concept and practice of design in the office of the tailor in the city of Bogota. To that purpose, five masters of tailoring –with more than twenty years of experience in the trade– were selected to inquire about the process of ideation-creation of a suit. Each case was analyzed under the theoretical structure of the iterative design process, contrasting in each one the presence of the characteristic phases of the theoretical design model: analysis, synthesis, projection and communication as categories for the identification of patterns. The results reveal the existence of design elements in the tailor’s job, presenting features typical of each stage of the iterative design process, as well as attitudes and actions that lead to the construction of a set of notions about users, actions and the scenarios of their practice.
