Summary:The geographies of housing policies have a multiscale character, since they affect state, regional and local levels of social life. However, its geopolitical dimension has not been addressed in Latin American urban research. Therefore, the objective of the article is tocompare the socio-spatial contents of housing policies based on a geopolitical differentiation between neo-liberal and neo-developmental states. Based on a chronological database of housing policies in the region, an analysis of criticism of the ideology thatseeks to identify convergent and divergent points of Latin American housing policies between 2005 and 2015 based on seven critical axes was developed. It is concluded that, despite the diversity between the two geopolitical blocks and the internal differences within them, the national or international financial-real estatesectors have been favored with a consequent reduction of habitat.
