Summary:The present study has a dual purpose; In the first place, the conceptual theoretical guidelines are established to understand the complex relationship between sustainability and resilience. These dimensions are shown as axes of the production of urban space in order to diagnose, analyze and propose alternatives to the series of problems derived from contemporary environmental devastation. Second, this study meets the goal of presenting the articles in the Dossier "The vicissitudes of the city in the 21st century". Following an approximate qualitative methodology, it is concluded that sustainability and urban resilience are part of the socio-territorial capacities to face the great adversities and uncertainties of our time.
