ojs-article-1042020-09-22T20:27:25Z Implications of urban metabolism to climate change Implicaciones del metabolismo urbano en el cambio climático Ávila Ramírez, David Carlos The concept of urban metabolism examines cities as dynamic beings. It is compared with certain physiological processes that cause the resources and energy necessary to sustain life, and it moves this idea into an urban context. Cities demand goods and services like water and energy in or- der to survive. The set of resources of the planet are used to provide the cities. Urban metabolism analyses all the resources and wastes regarding the environment where cities are unfolding. Therefore, the study on the urban environ- ment results in the emergence of the term urban metabolism, which analyses the exchange of matter, energy that is built between urban settle-ments and the environment where it develops. This exchange of resources refers to interven- tions between social and material processes. In the present work, the urban metabolism has as principal reference, the resource of water, the co-benefits of the sustainable urbanization, the clean air, the green earth, the safe energy and the solid wastes, all analyzed towards the world problem of climate change.
