Studying human living spaces mean going back to the cave age, however, this time the main purpose is to briefly outline the domestic space, particularly porfiriana house and the complex web of symbolic representations that are generated between the inhabitants and within its context and their special distribution. It is unthinkable to study «the house» without placing it in its immediate surroundings, that is, the city that hosts it. An interpretative analysis of some houses, the object of study is done, to answer some questions as to the relationships of power that are exercised within them, and in many cases reflect the social, economic, moral and cultural customs the time. Cultural heritage home built allows analysis from a wide variety of positions, including gender. La historia social y cultural de la casa remite, irremediablemente, al estudio de la vida cotidiana y su contexto simbólico. Estudiar los espacios habitables del ser humano implicaría remontarse a la edad de las cavernas, sin embargo, en esta ocasión el propósito principal es exponer brevemente el espacio doméstico mexicano, particularmente la casa porfiriana y el complejo entramado de las representaciones simbólicas que se generan entre los habitantes y su contexto interior y su distribución espacial. Es impensable el estudio de la casa sin ubicarla en su entorno inmediato, es decir, la ciudad que la alberga. Se realiza así un análisis interpretativo de unas casas para dar respuesta a algunos cuestionamientos en cuanto a las relaciones de poder que se ejercen dentro de ellas y que, en muchos, casos son reflejo de las costumbres sociales, económicas, morales y culturales de la época. El patrimonio cultural edificado doméstico permite su análisis desde gran diversidad de posturas, incluyendo la de género.
