The case study of Editora Abril, whose relocation of office facilities involved twelve buildings located in different parts of the city of São Paulo, allowed the use Building Performance Evaluation methods to analyse, for the first time in Brazil, the life cycle of a building in use, and also to establish an intrinsic relationship between design requirements and users needs and expectations. This paper discusses Pre-Design Research applied to eleven office buildings occupied by Editora Abril before the relocation, and a Post Occupancy Evaluation applied to the Birmann 21 building after the relocation. It presents the methodology, the comparative analysis and the results obtained focusing on the participation of the user in the interior design process. No Brasil, até o presente momento, são escassos os trabalhos profissionais que envolvam o usuário na etapa inicial do processo de projeto, permitindo um entendimento mais aprofundado do perfil daqueles que vão usar aquele espaço, bem como uma investigação mais ampla acerca de suas condições de trabalho e expectativas quanto ao ambiente a ser projetado e/ou em uso. O caso da Editora Abril, cujo processo de reestruturação dos seus espaços físicos envolveu doze edifícios situados em diferentes regiões na cidade de São Paulo, possibilitou não somente a aplicação de métodos e técnicas de Avaliação de Desempenho, como também, pela primeira vez no Brasil, analisar o ciclo de uso de edifícios por uma empresa e estabelecer uma relação intrínseca entre as necessidades funcionais e expectativas dos usuários com os requerimentos de projetos. Este artigo trata de procedimentos da APP – Avaliação Pré-Projeto aplicados em onze edifícios ocupados pela Editora Abril em São Paulo antes da mudança, e da APO – Avaliação Pós-Ocupação aplicada no edifício Birmann 21 após a mudança. Serão apresentadas a metodologia utilizada, as análises e os resultados obtidos, tendo como ênfase os aspectos metodológicos relacionados à participação do usuário no processo projetual.
