Three tests were performed in prototypes of sanitary sewer systems associated to Brazilian building typologies, in which the pressure in different points of the system was measured, and the performance of seal traps was assessed. The prototypes were tested with several sanitary appliance flow arrangements, as well as with different types of ventilation systems, always starting with the sanitary sewer system which had only primary ventilation.The aim of this work is to provide designers of building sanitary sewer systems with guidelines for safely conceiving and dimensioning the ventilation subsystem, as well as replacing secondary ventilation pipes by air-admittance valves. . Este artigo apresenta uma análise das condições de ventilação dentro do Sistema de Esgoto Sanitário de edifícios residenciais, quando a ventilação secundária, realizada por meio de ramais e colunas de ventilação, é substituída por válvulas de admissão de ar. Foram realizados ensaios em protótipos de sistemas prediais de esgotos sanitários de tipologias brasileiras, sendo avaliadas as pressões em diversos pontos dos sistemas, como também o comportamento dos fechos hídricos dos desconectores presentes nas instalações. Os protótipos foram ensaiados com diversos arranjos de descarga dos aparelhos sanitários, como também com diferentes tipos de sistema de ventilação, sempre a partir do sistema de esgoto sanitário dotado apenas de ventilação primária. Assim, pretende-se com este trabalho fornecer subsídios para que os projetistas de sistemas prediais de esgotos sanitários possam conceber e dimensionar com maior segurança o subsistema de ventilação, como também utilizar válvulas de admissão de ar em substituição à ventilação secundária realizada com tubulações.
