The economy that results from the rational use of water can pay other needs for the building operation and also supply more users with the same installed infrastructure. Besides that, water savings can help the environment conservation, which is the main premise for the sustainable development of any nation. In this context, this article presents the methodology and the results obtained in the water conservation program developed for the Clinical Hospital of the State University of Campinas, SP. This study can support the development of similar actions in this type of building. Cada vez mais, a adoção de medidas relacionadas com a conservação de água tem se tornado fundamental nos edifícios públicos e institucionais, devido ao alto custo de operação dos mesmos. Além disso, a economia advinda da redução do consumo pode possibilitar não somente o custeio de outros itens necessários ao seu funcionamento, mas também a disponibilização desse volume economizado para o atendimento de novos usuários com a mesma infra-estrutura urbana instalada, contribuindo, assim, para a conservação do meio ambiente, premissa básica do desenvolvimento sustentável de qualquer nação. Inserido neste contexto, este artigo descreve a metodologia usada para implementação do Programa de Uso Racional da água no Hospital das Clínicas da UNICAMP, bem como os resultados obtidos. Este estudo pode subsidiar o desenvolvimento de ações similares em edificações dessa tipologia.
