First, the specific water consumption for each appliance was estimated by measuring the water flow rate for each appliance and interviewing users about their habits on water use. Based on such data it was possible to estimate the total water consumption for each building; by comparing these with the water consumption measured by the water service board it was possible to determine the water end-uses for each building. In order to make up for discrepancies on the estimated water consumption, a sensitivity analysis was performed on the data obtained from the interviews; leakages were also searched for. In ten buildings that have been studied, toilets and urinals showed the highest end-uses; both toilet and urinal end-uses together ranged from 44.3% to 84.3%, being 72.1% on average. These results indicate that there is a possibility of using rainwater and reusing greywater in buildings, since major water consumers (toilets and urinals) do not need potable water for their operation. Este artigo apresenta os usos finais de água estimados para dez edifícios do setor público localizados em Florianópolis, SC. Primeiramente, fez-se a estimativa dos consumos específicos de água em cada dispositivo sanitário do edifício, medindo-se a vazão deles e realizando-se entrevistas com os usuários, que relataram seus hábitos em relação ao uso da água nos edifícios. Com base nestes dados foi possível estimar o consumo total de água e compará-lo ao consumo fornecido pela concessionária, obtendo-se os usos finais de água. Para corrigir eventuais distorções ocorridas no consumo estimado, fez-se uma análise de sensibilidade sobre os dados obtidos nas entrevistas e também se verificou a presença de vazamentos nos edifícios. Nos dez edifícios estudados, percebeu-se predominância de maior consumo de água em vasos sanitários e mictórios, variando a soma dos consumos para esses dispositivos entre 44,3% e 84,3%, com média de 72,1%. Esses dados indicam a possibilidade de utilização de água pluvial ou de reuso de águas cinzas nos edifícios, pois os pontos de maior consumo de água (vaso sanitário e mictório) não necessitam, obrigatoriamente, de água potável.
