Since the entry of capitalism and industrialization, cities have been transformed into metropolises. This causes social and environmental problems, such as the generation of pollution, as well as the exploitation of natural resources, and a lack of environmental social responsibility. Therefore, there is a need to take strategies to integrate the economic, social, environmental and territorial spheres, and, similarly, create a social conscience to be able to preserve the city in a sustainable way. Para conceptualizar la ciudad sustentable, debemos analizarla desde sus orígenes y su transformación en el tiempo, debido a cambios sociales, económicos y ambientales. A partir de la entrada del capitalismo y la industrialización, se han transformado las ciudades en metrópolis. Esto ocasiona problemas sociales y ambientales, como la generación de contaminación, al igual que la explotación de recursos naturales, y una falta de responsabilidad social ambiental. Por tanto, se presenta la necesidad de tomar estrategias para que se logre integrar los ámbitos económico, social, ambiental y territorial, y, de igual manera, crear una consciencia social para poder preservar a la ciudad de una manera sustentable. Para conceituar a cidade sustentável, devemos analisá-la desde suas origens e sua transformação ao longo do tempo, devido a mudanças sociais, econômicas e ambientais. Desde a entrada do capitalismo e da industrialização, as cidades foram transformadas em metrópoles. Isso causa problemas sociais e ambientais, como a geração de poluição, a exploração de recursos naturais e a falta de responsabilidade social ambiental. Portanto, é necessário adotar estratégias para integrar as esferas econômica, social, ambiental e territorial e, da mesma forma, criar uma consciência social para preservar a cidade de maneira sustentável.
