Jacileda Cerqueira This article assumes that in the analysis of the urban landscape should be considered in addition to aesthetics aspects, the complex social, historical and cultural processes that have made their "construction". The Largo da Mariquita, located at Rio Vermelho neighborhood of Salvador - Bahia, had its space and urban landscape transformed: from Indian village, fishing village and summerplace - in the twentieth century; the tertiary use mainly focused on tourism and tourist place nowadays. Thus, the ancient, the modern and the contemporary dialogue and are mixed at Mariquita, showing the complex relations between heritage, uses, land use and appropriation of urban space in contemporary Salvador. The purpose of this article is therefore to present and discuss some issues and possible interpretations of the urban landscape of the Largo Mariquita, considering its landscape importance, architectural, cultural and historical for the city and especially for Salvador’s population. Este artigo parte do pressuposto de que na análise da paisagem de um lugar devem ser considerados, além dos aspectos morfológicos e estéticos, os diversos processos sociais, históricos e culturais que fazem parte de sua “construção”. Analisamos, assim, o Largo da Mariquita, espaço público localizado no Rio Vermelho, um bairro que nasceu como área de veraneio ou de segunda residência, na cidade de Salvador Bahia Brasil. A dinâmica desse bairro foi se transformando, ao longo do tempo, até que ele se tornasse mais conhecido por suas características voltadas ao uso terciário, sobretudo, usos de apoio ao turismo. O Largo contém, hoje, edificações de valor histórico arquitetônico anteriores ao século XIX, o que cria uma atmosfera que mistura o antigo e o moderno, devendo então ser compreendido a partir das complexas relações entre patrimônio urbano, os novos usos e as novas apropriações surgidos a partir de novos contextos históricos. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar sob diversos aspectos uma leitura possível da paisagem no Largo da Mariquita, considerando sua importância paisagística, arquitetônica, cultural e histórica para toda a cidade e, sobretudo, para a sua população.
