| Summary: | The old Hospital de Chimbarongo, located in the homonymous rural town of the sixth Chilean region, has more than one hundred years of existence. Representative of a tipology of pavilions, characteristic of the scientific medicine of the 19th century, is part of the architectural heritage’s value that the community and the state administration suggest protecting. The aim of this research is to elucidate the values that support its declarate as Historical Monument, in the tipologycal–architectural perspective, in the specific historical framework, and considering some aspects of the cultural landscape, proposing the discussion of values as conclusion. The research was sponsored by the Ministry of Health’s Health Cultural Heritage Unit and the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Universidad de Chile. |
