The new patterns of use of open space are being subordinated to the economic forms that require greater e ectiveness in shorter terms, which leads to little observation of environmental quality indicators. These modi cations, in patrimonial places, as is the case of Old Havana, Cuba, are submitted to the ordinances for the protection of the patrimony, converting many points of the street into space-museum, with great offers of attraction, but null opportunities of stay. The condition that prevents the permanence in the place is due in part to unfavorable microclimatic conditions. The study focuses on the indicators and variables that are involved in the e ciency of open spaces in the historic center of Old Havana, with respect to the urban microclimate and the thermal comfort zone. The methodology con- sists of qualitative analysis of the composition of the space, and quantitative of the thermal conditions. La continua presión demográfica modifica la ocupación del espacio urbano y genera condiciones ambientales de baja calidad. Los patrones actuales de su uso se ven supeditados a las formas económicas, que exigen mayor efectividad en plazos más cortos, lo que lleva a la poca observación de los indicadores de calidad ambiental. Dichas modificaciones en lugares patrimoniales, como es el caso de la Habana Vieja, Cuba, son sometidas a las ordenanzas para la protección del patrimonio, lo que convierte muchos puntos de la calle en museo, con ofertas de atracción, pero con oportunidades de estadía escasas. Esta condición, que impide la permanencia en el lugar, se debe en parte a las características microclimáticas poco favorables. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar las condiciones ambientales en escala micro, y está centrado en los indicadores y las variables que se involucran en la eficiencia de los espacios abiertos en el casco histórico de La Habana Vieja, con respecto al clima urbano y la zona de confort térmico.
