Resumo:Federal Government Decree 10.306 / 2020 aims to establish Building Information Modeling (BIM) by the federal public administration. In this sense, academia has an important role since, among other duties, it prepares future professionals for the job market in the area of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC). However, research indicates that it is not easy to implement BIM in teaching due to the need to modify the curricular matrix of courses and to require teachers to adhere to the paradigm. Therefore, new perspectives for the insertion of BIM in academia are necessary. This paper aims to discuss the benefits achieved with the pioneering initiative of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) in implementing BIM teaching through action research. The work's main contribution is the positive results in preparing students for the job market and the consequent gain in interest of teachers, encouraging adherence to BIM, resulting from the strategy applied by the Study and Research Group in Project Integration (GIP). The action research resulted in a BIM implementation plan for the Technical Course in Buildings and BIM Execution Plans for disciplines, demonstrating the approach's potential to be replicated in other educational institutions.
