In this sense, academia has an important role since, among other duties, it prepares future professionals for the job market in the area of ​​Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC). However, research indicates that it is not easy to implement BIM in teaching due to the need to modify the curricular matrix of courses and to require teachers to adhere to the paradigm. Therefore, new perspectives for the insertion of BIM in academia are necessary. This paper aims to discuss the benefits achieved with the pioneering initiative of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) in implementing BIM teaching through action research. The work's main contribution is the positive results in preparing students for the job market and the consequent gain in interest of teachers, encouraging adherence to BIM, resulting from the strategy applied by the Study and Research Group in Project Integration (GIP). The action research resulted in a BIM implementation plan for the Technical Course in Buildings and BIM Execution Plans for disciplines, demonstrating the approach's potential to be replicated in other educational institutions. O Decreto 10.306/2020 do governo federal se destina a estabelecer o uso de Building Information Modeling (BIM) pela administração pública federal. Nesse sentido, a academia tem papel relevante, uma vez que, entre outras atribuições, prepara os futuros profissionais para o mercado de trabalho na área de Arquitetura, Engenharia e Construção (AEC). No entanto, pesquisas indicam que não é fácil implementar o BIM no ensino, devido à necessidade de modificar a matriz curricular dos cursos e de requerer a adesão dos professores ao paradigma. Em vista do exposto, novas perspectivas de inserção do BIM na academia são necessárias. Adotando a pesquisa-ação como método de pesquisa, este trabalho tem como objetivo discutir os benefícios alcançados com a iniciativa pioneira do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) no processo de implementação do ensino do BIM por meio da pesquisa. A principal contribuição do trabalho são os resultados positivos em termos de preparação de alunos para o mercado de trabalho e o consequente ganho de interesse dos professores, fomentando a adesão ao BIM advindos a estratégia aplicada pelo Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisa em Integração de Projetos (GIP). A pesquisa-ação resultou em plano de implementação do BIM no curso Técnico em Edificações, assim como Planos de Execução BIM em disciplinas, demonstrando o potencial da abordagem para ser replicada em outras instituições de ensino.
