In the midst of the redesign of the world and all its systems is witnessing the largest mass movement of people, goods, factories, frantic finances and ideas in history. However, there is still a longing for belonging, distinction and identity that resists the phenomenon enabled by digitalization, which is changing the way we interact with space, place and time. It is in this scenario, where the civic city, the creative community, which tries to find a way through the main failures, dilemmas and potentials of our time: shared lives, inequality, environmental anguish and urban vitality. Creativity is a source of integral development of the territory. Recognize and promote the creative community and its identity value is to ensure the quality of life and sustainable environmental development; cultural, social and economic. This research is aimed at examining the creative cities approach, and the emerging perspective of creative communities. The coexistence of both trends and their implications for the improvement of the quality of life and in the construction of urban environmental sustainability is discussed. En medio del rediseño del mundo y de todos sus sistemas se está presenciando el mayor movimiento de masas de personas, bienes, fábricas, finanzas frenéticas e ideas en la historia. Sin embargo, persiste un anhelo de pertenencia, distinción e identidad que se resiste al fenómeno habilitado por la digitalización, que está cambiando la forma en que interactuamos con el espacio, el lugar y el tiempo. Es en este escenario, donde la ciudad cívica, la comunidad creativa, la que trata de encontrar un camino a través de las principales fallas, dilemas y potenciales de nuestro tiempo: vidas compartidas, desigualdad, angustia ambiental y vitalidad urbana. La creatividad es una fuente de desarrollo integral del territorio. Reconocer y promover la comunidad creativa y su valor identitario es asegurar la calidad de vida y el desarrollo ambiental sustentable; cultural, social y económico. Esta investigación se dirige a examinar el enfoque de ciudades creativas, y la perspectiva emergente de las comunidades creativas. Se discute la coexistencia de ambas tendencias y sus implicancias para el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida y en la construcción de la sustentabilidad ambiental urbana.
