Simultaneously, the city was considered as an object of study and action, platform for the attempt unsuccessful to construct urbanism as a profession. This paper examines the appearance of hygienists, engineers and architects in Buenos Aires, emphasizing the role that hygienism had in theconstitution of the technical urbanistic discourse about matters such as: a) the conception of the city as an organism, b) the association between space and society, e) the new figure of the specialist.
