Summary: | Teaching, research and production processes in the field of graphic design are still marked by a conceptual "paradigm" that overvalues the intuitive dimension over the logical functions of the design discipline. This research analyzes the rational processes of the designer in the conceptual stage of the process, in which the central issues of the Project are defined. The "materials" (protocols) generated by the designer (analogical or digital graphics, patterns, analysis, texts, animations, diagrams) are considered and related to the processes of mental image construction, explicit procedures of justification or logical justification, based on the specific requirements and parameters of the issue. This is an analytical-empirical investigation, using the techniques of "Design Protocol Analysis (DPA)" based on theoretical categories derived from the cognitive-representational dimension in the field of design, and Actor Network Theory (ANT). As a result of the research we present a new methodological image of graphic design with a logical-rational dynamic in which processes and operations are made explicit, thus weakening the hypothesis of the "black box" still present in training activities, research and professional management. |
