One of the main difficulties encountered in this research is the continuing fragmentation of knowledge into areas, in spite of the growing need to train architects that understand the discipline in an integrated way. Therefore, this study stresses the need to establish transverse topics that make it possible to once again join the aforementioned self-contained areas of knowledge, and in this manner assure that students make connections between acquired knowledge. Este artículo muestra los resultados de la investigación “La enseñanza de la arquitectura en primer año” que tuvo como objetivo profundizar en los pensum de diferentes escuelas de arquitectura a nivel mundial y entender la manera en que la estructura curricular de este primer año determina la formación de los futuros arquitectos. Una de las principales problemáticas expuestas aquí apunta al aún existente fraccionamiento del conocimiento en áreas, a pesar de la necesidad creciente de educar arquitectos que conciban la disciplina de una forma integral. En este sentido, el estudio concluye en la necesidad de plantear temas transversales que permitan volver a vincular dichas áreas, que se encuentran auto contenidas, y asegurar que los estudiantes relacionen conocimientos aprendidos.
