This article seeks to clarify doubts by identifying the origin of these terms. The word recycling must be used with moderation due to its political connotations. In consequence, the concepts cultural urban heritage and built heritage have replaced the traditional concept historic centre. A further objective of this study is to clarify how this change has come about following the Bologne intervention. La incursión de la relativa nueva disciplina llamada rehabilitación desde fines de los años sesentas en Italia, que viene a sustituir a la tradicional restauración cuando de intervenir el patrimonio urbano se trata, ha traído consigo la inclusión de nuevos conceptos y nuevas tecnologías de construcción, con los consecuentes problemas que esto representa. Este artículo busca aclarar esas dudas encontrando el origen de tales palabras. El uso de la palabra reciclaje deberá hacerse con mesura, en virtud de las connotaciones políticas que tiene. También como consecuencia, los conceptos patrimonio urbano y patrimonio edificado sustituyen al tradicional de centro histórico. Igualmente es objetivo de este trabajo el aclarar como se da este cambio desde la intervención en Bolonia.
