An approach to the so-called housing deficit in Chile is there presented, based on the statistics from the Chilean census of 1992 and CEPAL. The storms and earthquake which in 1997 devastated our country are also mentioned as well as the housing figures which are the result of the action of the Housing and Urbanism Ministry in 1995 and this year. Some considerations on this topic are presented here. El artículo que sigue está incluido en un apunte de clases del autor, titulado "Algunas teorías sobre la vivienda de interés social". En estas líneas se entrega una visión aproximada del llamado déficit de viviendas en Chile, hecho en base a estadísticas del Censo chileno de 1992 y de la Copal. También se recuerdan los temporales y el terremoto que en 1997 asolaron nuestro territorio y las cifras de viviendas que corresponden a la acción del Ministerio de Vivienda y Urbanismo (MINVU) de nuestro gobierno en 1995 y en este año. Se medita sobre el tema.
