Gaia: | In France and more widely in Europe, as in Portugal, today we are witnessing a real boom in urban agriculture: residents are in demand of this type of food nature and the interest of public authorities is growing. In this way, we can speak of congruence between the lived nature and the active nature, between the representations, the wishes of the people of the city and the actions and strategies of public decision makers. But do we find the same everywhere? In this case, does urban agriculture always have a positive image? Is there an agreement of views? Is there not, on the contrary, possible differences, gaps between city dwellers and decision makers? Our research, conducted as part of afinanced by the National Network of MSH, focused on Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). We have been conducting in situ observations, interviews with farmers and decision makers, complemented by an analysis of planning documents. In the capital of Burkina Faso, urban agriculture has seen a sharp increase in its surface area: this “food” nature is popular with city dwellers. However, it is not one of the choices officially considered in urban planning. These surveys reveal divergences of views between farmers and public decision makers, which is presented in this contribution. |
