Through the analysis of Socoroma, in northern Chile, the local technological strategies for the balanced use of the available water ow are exposed, in the face of scarcity events or excesses of the resource, while supporting a social and cultural system that gives form to a habit intimately linked to the environment. The analysis of these hydraulic spaces enables the understanding of the local manifestations to organize, construct and inhabit a territory in function of the adaptation to the environment, as well as its transformation into models of future intervention, applicable in both rural and urban areas.

A través del análisis de Socoroma, en el norte de Chile, se exponen las estrategias tecnológicas locales para el uso equilibrado del caudal del agua disponible, frente a eventos de escasez o excesos del recurso, mientras sirven de soporte a un sistema social y cultural que da forma a un habitar íntimamente vinculado al entorno. El análisis de estos espacios hidráulicos permite comprender las manifestaciones locales para organizar, construir y habitar un territorio en función de la adaptación al medio ambiente, así como su transformación en modelos de intervención futura, aplicables tanto en ámbitos rurales como urbanos.  A pesquisa estuda o conjunto de conhecimentos técnicos locais associados às características de água existentes na colonização da cordilheira dos Andes, representativa da paisagem cultural andina. Através da análise de Socoroma, no norte do Chile, as estratégias tecnológicas locais para o uso equilibrado do uxo de água disponível são expostas, diante de eventos de escassez ou excessos do recurso, ao mesmo tempo em que apoiam o sistema social e cultural que dá forma a um hábito intimamente ligado ao meio ambiente.
