In this context, the research analyzed the performance of the designer as a social actor of strategic articulation and development of projects in social innovations, aiming at the conception and construction of intelligent human cities. Its application took place in a case study: Projeto Inova Verde, in which a public garden was developed to give a new meaning to an abandoned space in a Brazilian university in the city of Florianópolis. The project was articulated by designers from a university research and extension center. It was considered that the designer has the potential to articulate the integration between community, space and project objectives, contributing to the development of intelligent human cities.

La innovación social genera soluciones nuevas y duraderas para grupos sociales y comunidades a través de la participación y la colaboración. El diseño contribuye a resolver problemas centrados en el usuario. En este contexto, la investigación analizó el desempeño del diseñador como actor social de articulación estratégica y desarrollo de proyectos en innovaciones sociales, con el objetivo de la concepción y construcción de ciudades humanas inteligentes. Su aplicación tuvo lugar en un estudio de caso: Projeto Inova Verde, en el que se desarrolló un jardín público para redefinir un espacio abandonado en una universidad brasileña en la ciudad de Florianópolis. El proyecto fue articulado por diseñadores de un núcleo de investigación y extensión universitaria.
