Description
Summary:The perspective of Cultural Heritage in relation to the study of Francisco Arias school in Lavalle (Mendoza, Argentina). Rural schools in Mendoza are presented as a topic of special interest, as much for the patrimonial heritage dimension of these constructions as for the relevance of their impact in its insertion site. Besides, the need of such a study is based upon a deficiency detected regarding the study and valuation of the build heritage in rural areas of Mendoza, therefore accentuating its current vulnerability. Thus, this work explores from a case study, the heritage dimension of a building daily inhabited like a school and its potential, both as a resource for local development and as an element of cohesion in rural territories. To do this, methods such as document analysis, direct observation and semi-structured interviews were used. The results hint at the relevance of the built heritage for a community, not only for its material values but also as a repository of symbolic aspects, besides the importance of considering the local population throughout the processes of study, valuation and conservation of their cultural heritage.
